Johnny Gill & New Edition On Steve Harvey
Steve Harvey hosts the “Men of 90’s R&B” all week on his t.v. show and there are none more talented or kind than Johnny Gill and New Edition.
Thanks to the New Edition Biopic on BET we are all up to date on the ups and downs and ins and outs of New Edition and how Bobby Brown fell out and Johnny Gill fit in.
Johnny then enjoyed tremendous success along with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat as the third member of LSG.
I met Johnny in 1996 when I worked as the West Coast Director Of Promotion for Motown Records. Johnny delivered his third and final album for Motown, “Let’s Get The Mood Right.”
Johnny back then, as always was one of the most talented and kind performers on the scene. The Album was certified Gold in January of 1997 and Motown soon after changed hands when it was purchased by Universal.
In 2014 Johnny released the album, “Game Changer.” He included his long time friends New Edition on the single, “This One’s For Me And You. ” Rolling Stone Magazine called it the move that, “revived New Edition’s Career.” The video was nominated for a NAACP Image Award.
In a recent interview with Charlie Wilson, Charlie told me that Gregg Pagani who wrote “There Goes My Baby” for Charlie actually wrote “This One’s For Me And You” for Charlie’s latest Album,”In It To Win It” but the single was not finished in time to make the album so they gave the song to Johnny and they could not be happier or more proud to see Johnny’s third straight top ten hit make the charts. Here he is today with New Edition on The Steve Harvey Show-and if you look closely you’ll see Charlie Wilson’s keyboard player!~
