Old School 105.7 has partnered with Findlay Toyota to bring you the best in Black History as we celebrate Black History Month!
Throughout the entire month of February, we will bring you the latest news and events as it relates to Black History Month celebrations all across the Las Vegas valley. We will have an updated lists of current events, and we will share some of our favorite moments in Black History that have made a positive impact on our lives today.
We invite you join us in recognizing these amazing and powerful individuals who have made a difference in the past, who are making a difference today, and who will continue to make a lasting difference for us all in the future.

Black History Month Events List – Southern Nevada
This week in Black History in Las Vegas, we start off by celebrating the life of Bob Bailey, a radio veteran who was responsible for creating the first and only local radio training program for black youths. He also initiated the first group training program for black card dealers in Las Vegas casinos. Today in Black History, we recognize the first black female Henderson, Nevada Police Chief, LaTesha Watson. According to the City of Henderson website, “LaTesha Watson brings proven leadership skills, extensive law enforcement experience and a vision for building on the success of the Henderson Police Department to the role of Police Chief. As the next leader of our police force, her number one job will be making sure Henderson remains one of the safest cities in America,” said Murnane. “We look forward to welcoming her to Henderson and to the innovative new ideas she will bring to the department from her more than two decades in the law enforcement field and strong academic background.” You can learn more about Ms. Watson by visiting the City of Henderson website.
Claytee White – One of five founders of the Las Vegas Black Historical Society Inc. While the other four founders of the Las Vegas Black Historical Society lived the history, Claytee White developed an interest in the area’s African-American history in graduate school, where she did her thesis on the subject. She chronicles the history of the area’s black community going back to 1905.
