Canadian Senate Votes To Legalize Marijuana
Canada’s Senate voted 56-30 on Thursday to legalize marijuana nationwide. The vote means that Canada will become the first nation in the developed world to allow marijuana use scross the country. Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and his Liberal Party have been pushing for legalization since he took office in 2015. Trudeau says that legal sales of recreational marijuana could begin within 10-12 weeks. The Canadian Senate’s vote to legalize included a few amendments that the House of Commons will have to vote on. Medical marijuana has been legal in Canada since 2001. Unlike here in the U.S. where marijuana is illegal at the federal level, Canadian marijuana investors and business owners will be able to use banks to process funds. Another nation moves ahead of the U.S.
