Golden Knights Battle Hard But Washington Takes The Cup
The storybook season has come to an improbable end. The Vegas Golden Knights lost game five of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night, 4-3 to the Washington Capitals at T-Mobile Arena. The win gave the Capitals their first ever Stanley Cup. Alexander Ovechkin won the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP. The Golden Knights played their hearts out, trying to send the series back to Washington for a game six, but again, the puck bounced more in favor of the Capitals than the Knights. Vegas led the game 3-2 going into the third period but Washington managed to get two goals past Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury to seal the win. Washington goalie Braden Holtby was up to the task of keeping the Knights from tying the game in the last couple of minutes. Vegas sportsbooks dodged having to pay out millions of dollars to bettors who had future bets on the Knights with some odds as high as 500-1. Nonetheless, the Golden Knights in their very first season gave us more than anyone expected by making it to the Stanley Cup final and uniting the Vegas community. As next season approaches, we will be proud to refer to the Knights as defending Pacific Division and Western Conference champions! We’re already looking forward to next season!
