Mr. Syd

Saturday 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

It wasn’t supposed to end like that. After giving fans another outstanding season of hockey in only their second season of existence, the Vegas Golden Knights were ousted in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs on Tuesday night, losing in overtime of game seven in San Jose to the Sharks. The Knights unfortunately blew a 3-1 series lead, failing to clinch the series at home in game 6, losing in double overtime. Vegas then blew a 3-0 lead in game seven, falling victim to a cross checking penalty in the third period which the referees deemed a five minute major but most agreed only warranted a two minute penalty. The Sharks scored four goals during the five minute power play to take the lead as the Knights became unraveled. Jonathan Marchessault tied the game for Vegas with less than a minute to play but San Jose snuck one past Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury late in the overtime period to send the Knights home for the summer. Knights owner Bill Foley said on Thursday that the NHL office called to say that the referees erred in calling the penalty a five minute major. No solace for the Knights or for fans. See you next season.
