SLS Hotel To Be Rebranded As Sahara Las Vegas

For years and years, the Sahara Hotel and Casino at the corner of Sahara and Las Vegas Boulevard was one of the most iconic and beloved properties in Vegas. As the recession hit Vegas, the Sahara started a downward spiral. Fortunes were reversed somewhat when the old Sahara was purchased in 2012 by SBE, remodeled, and re-opened as the SLS. Billionaire Alex Meruelo and his Meruelo group purchased the property last year and Meruelo has announced that he will soon begin a complete remodeling of the property and the name will change to “Sahara Las Vegas.” A spokesman said that the name “SLS” never caught on in Vegas. The move reinforces the continued resurgence of the north end of the Strip.
