The Vegas Golden Knights got their season off to a good start last night with a 4-1 victory over division rival San Jose before a roaring sellout crowd at T-Mobile Arena. Mark Stone got the Knights on the board less than four minutes into the game with a power play goal and Reilly Smith scored his first of two goals less than three minutes later to send the hometown crowd into a frenzy. The only real damper on the evening was defenseman Nate Schmidt suffering a knee injury halfway through the first period when he banged knees with Logan Couture of the Sharks. Schmidt didn’t return and the Knights offered no update on his injury after the game. The Knights will travel to San Jose for a rematch with the Sharks on Friday night. The next home game for Vegas will be next Tuesday against Boston.
