MGM Resorts announced that it will be raising resort fees locally at its’ Bellagio, Vdara and Aria resorts to $45 a night. The move comes among increased scrutiny about resort fees, which many resorts and hotels charge for use of property fitness centers, wifi, and other hotel amenities. Customers complain that they are unknowingly being charged these fees even if they aren’t using the amenities. Most hotels only disclose the resort fees in very small print on your bill and many customers don’t realize they are being charged the fees until they check out. Lawmakers in Congress are considering a bill that would totally ban resort fees and other lawmakers are crafting a bill that would require greater transparency in disclosing resort fees, especially on resort advertising. Many resorts do not include resort fees in the price they show for rooms per night.
