As the WNBA prepare to kick of their 24th season, the free agency market opened today and our Las Vegas Aces are taking full advantage.
The Aces announced they have signed five-time WNBA All-Star Angel McCoughtry. McCoughtry, who was the number one draft pick in 2003 has played her entire career with the Atlanta Dream averaging 19 points per game.
She is expected to be a great scoring and defensive addition to the Aces powerhouse roster that includes, All-Stars Liz Cambage, A’ja Wilson, Kayla McBride and Sixth Woman of the Year Dearica Hamby.
McCoughtry missed the entire 2019 season due to an injury but appears to be healthy and excited to be joining the Aces. “I am truly honored for the opportunity to continue my career and make my return to the WNBA with the Las Vegas Aces. I can’t wait to get to know the fans and the community, and bond with my new teammates. It is truly a blessing to continue playing the game that I love and to help make history in this amazing organization.”
The Aces will begin their third season in the league after moving from San Antiono, and many including Head Coach Bill Laimbeer believes McCoughtry could be the Aces winning puzzle piece for their first championship.
“Angel knows the kind of culture we are building here with our core group, and her addition moves us another step closer to our goal of bringing a championship to the city of Las Vegas”, explained Head Coach Bill Laimbeer.
Aces fans can get their first look at Angel McCoughtry during the Aces home opener May 17 vs the Dallas Wings at Mandalay Bay.
