MAN’S BEST FRIEND DOES IT AGAIN

For years dogs have been sniffing out drugs, explosives, cancer, malaria…and soon…even…the Corona Virus!

A British charity who’s trained dogs to smell for malaria says there is no reason that dogs can’t also detect COVID-19.

Medical Detection Dogs is partnering with Tropical Medicine and Hygiene School in London and Durham University to begin training dogs to detect Corona as well.

Dr. Claire Guest, a behavioral psychologist and principal member of the charity said, there is “absolutely no reason why a dog can’t detect the virus.”

Medical Detection Dogs has produced multiple studies while training the canines to smell and find cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and even recently how to detect malaria. Now they believe that they’re ready to attack COVID as well.

The goal is to be able to screen anyone, whether they show symptoms of the virus or not. The organization believes it would be more convenient, less expensive, eliminate additional tools, and be faster, more effective and completely non-invasive. It would also eliminate unnecessary testing, thus saving time and money.

Many involved in the project believe that with respiratory diseases like COVID-19 that the body exudes a specific smell that is distinct and completely discernable by the dogs. They also believe that not only in the short term, but also can and will revolutionize the process of testing in the long term as well.

Give that dog a bone!
