The NHL is looking at scenarios to restart the season with a 24 team playoff tournament. Ideas include teams playing games in just a few cities including Las Vegas with no fans attending. The possibility of the Stanley Cup Finals being played in Vegas at T-Mobile Arena is under consideration. The NHL is also considering 20 and 16 team formats. In any of the possible scenarios, the Golden Knights would automatically qualify as they were in first place in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division when the season was suspended. In the 24 team format, the Knights would get a bye while eight teams held play in games. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman stresses that nothing is written in stone yet, but all indications are that the NHL is actively pursuing a way to resume the season and crown a champion.
