Free agent quarterback Cam Newton has signed a one year contract with the New England Patriots. Newton is the former quarterback of the Carolina Panthers. His deal could be worth up to $7.5 million with incentives. Newton will be expected to take the place of Tom Brady, who signed in free agency with Tampa Bay a couple of months ago. Newton will however be competing for the starting QB spot with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. Newton was the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft and was the leagues’s MVP in 2015. He’s been limited by injuries the last couple of seasons, playing in only two games last year. Newton has posted workout videos showing him to be apparently recovered from the shoulder and foot injuries that have hampered him over the last two seasons.
