The UNLV Board of Regents approved the hiring of Dr. Keith Whitfield as the new UNLV president. The 58 year old Whitfield comes to UNLV from Wayne State University in Detroit where he serves as a provost, senior vice president for academic affairs, and a psychology professor. Whitfield will become the first black president in UNLV’s history. He takes over on August 24 from acting president Marta Meana, who announced last February that she wouldn’t seek to stay in the position permanently. UNLV regents approved a four year contract worth $500,000 yearly for the new president.
