This week on Monday Night Football we saw our Las Vegas Raiders beat New Orleans, however that was NOT the only victory we got.
There was also a win by Raiders Head Coach Jon Gruden off the field. He defeated Covid 19. Something very few people even knew about.
Gruden let it be known that he’d fought off Covid 19 prior to the beginning of the season. The revelation came as a response to a question about why he hadn’t been properly wearing a mask during the game, as many of us had seen on television. Later is was also discovered that three coaches had been fined for improperly wearing their masks during their games.
Gruden spoke out when asked by ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez about the way he wore his mask. “I’m doing my best, I’ve had the virus. I’m doing my best. I’m very sensitive about it … I’m calling plays. I just wanna communicate in these situations and if I get fined I’ll have to pay the fine but I’m very sensitive about that and I apologize.”
NFL Network’s Mike Garafalo reported some 6 weeks ago that the team had been informed of Gruden’s catching the Covid virus. However, they’d made it clear that it was more an FYI than it was a cause for alarm.
An Oakland Tribune reporter (Jerry McDonald) had reportedly tweeted that he’d checked in with Gruden via text and was told that he’d contracted Covid in Mid-July and wasn’t going to make it known to the general public. He also went on to say that he’d gotten upset when some people suggested that he’d faked it to teach his team a lesson.
The good news is Coach Gruden won. The Raiders won…again!
