Aces Eclipse Sun, Will Play For Championship
The Las Vegas Aces used a stifling second half defense and 11 fourth quarter points from league MVP A’ja Wilson to beat Connecticut 66-63 and advance to the WNBA championship. Wilson finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds to help Vegas overcome a 16 point first half deficit. Angel McCoughtry duplicated Wilson’s effort with 23 points and 11 rebounds and Kayla McBride added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Aces. Vegas trailed 45-39 at halftime but outscored Connecticut 14-9 in the third quarter and held the Sun to 18 points in the second half. The top seeded Aces now move on to play Seattle for the WNBA championship. Game one is Friday at 4pm in Bradenton, FL and game two will be Sunday at noon. The Aces beat Seattle twice during the regular season. Vegas will be without forward Dearica Hamby, who injured her knee in game three and is probably out for the rest of the playoffs. This will be a Las Vegas professional sports team’s second crack at winning a title. The Vegas Golden Knights advanced to the Stanley Cup final two years ago in their first season, losing to Washington.
