Breakdancing To Be An Olympic Sport
The International Olympic Committee announced that it is adding breakdancing to the roster of events for the 2024 Olympics which will be held in Paris, France. IOC President Thomas Bach says the goal is to make the Summer Olympics “more gender balanced, more youthful, and more urban.” Surfing, skateboarding, and sport climbing will also be on the roster for the 2024 games as they will for next summer’s games in Tokyo. Some other events such as weightlifting and boxing will see the number of participants reduced to make way for the newer sports. The IOC says that the breakdancing competitions will be held at the prestigious Place De La Concorde in downtown Paris. There’ll be 16 competitors in each of the men’s and women’s medal events and the event will officially be called “breaking.”
