Know your black history! DJ Thumps person of the day is Bayard Rustin an American leader in the social movement for civil rights, nonviolence, socialism, and gay rights. Dr. King is usually credited for the March on Washington, but it was Rustin who organized and strategized in the shadows. Why was he in the shadows and not known it was because of his controversial ties to communism and because he was gay, he was considered a liability to be on the front lines of the movement. We can thankfully say because of his brilliant mind and his dedication to the community he pushed for more jobs and better wages which moved history forward.
