Black History Moment: Remembering Phillis Wheatley
Jammin’ 105.7 and DJ Thump take today to honor the life and legacy of Phillis Wheatley!
Although Wheatley spent most of her life enslaved it did not stop her from succeeding within her own right. Wheatley published a book of poems entitled Poems On Various Subjects, despite never getting a formal education.
Unfortunately, she passed away before getting her second volume of poems published. A monument is up on display at the Boston Women’s Memorial honoring her legacy.
Wheatley was a West-African born writer that came to America as a slave. She worked for John Wheatley and his wife.
