LG announced in a statement on Monday that it will be ceasing to manufacture cell phones. The cell phone division of LG is expected to be phased out by July although some existing LG cell phone models may continue to be sold. The statement released by the company cited increased competition in the cell phone business as a major factor in the decision to stop making phones. LG was one of the more popular American Android brands, trailing only Samsung and Apple in popularity, but lagging far behind primarily Chinese brands worldwide.
