Kanye West’s Label Made Teyana Taylor Feel ‘Under-appreciated’
Teyana Taylor says that she felt her music was “underappreciated” multiple times by Kanye West’s record label G.O.O.D Music.
According to Page Six, West signed the singer-songwriter in 2012 while she was working on his album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But after releasing her third album last June, called The Album, Taylor shocked fans by announcing her retirement from music that December.
30-year-old Taylor said in an interview that part of the reason for her exit from the industry was that she felt let down by West’s label. She said, “I am going to feel underappreciated if I’m putting in 110 percent and my label is giving me … what, 10 percent of that.”
Taylor added, “I put in a lot of work [and] I felt like the label wasn’t really hearing me and [seeing] me. I feel underappreciated. It’s not that I retired permanently, it’s more like, I don’t want to move another inch for a company.”
When she quit the music industry, she wrote on an Instagram post thanking her fans, “Wow, who did that? Y’all did that! 🥺Thank you 💗”
She went on to complain about not being appreciated by West’s label, “I ain’t gone front in times of feeling super under appreciated as a artist, receiving little to no real push from the ‘machine’, constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked, I mean the list on and on lol..”
Followed by announcing her retirement from the music industry saying, “I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that i can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world! To all my supporters from day 1 & all my new ones I love you and I thank you for everything & don’t worry y’all know 🤎 all hustlers have the understanding that when one door closes another will open…either that or I’m pickin da locks petunia!!! So wassup😜🤎😘”
Teyana Taylor is also a model for IMG Models Worldwide, choreographer, and actress, most recently appearing in Coming 2 America.
