Iconic actor Clarence Williams III has passed away at the age 81. Williams passed away after a bout with colon cancer. Williams was born in New York City and came to prominence with his role as “Linc Hayes” on the 1970’s TV show “The Mod Squad.” The role was notable because not many black actors were featured on prime time TV shows. Williams had roles on Broadway and in a number of feature films including playing Prince’s father in “Purple Rain.” He was also known for his role in “52 Pick-Up” and his part as a mortician in “Tales From The Hood.” He also had a featured role as a hitman in the 1997 movie “Hoodlum” with Laurence Fishburne. Williams said he had no problem with being known mostly for his “Mod Squad” role, saying “It’s nice to be recognized, I have no problem with it at all.”
