UNLV Loses Football Opener
The UNLV Rebels football team lost it’s season opener 35-33 in double OT to Eastern Washington, a second tier FCS school.
UNLV came back from a 20-6 fourth quarter deficit to tie the game and send it into OT, where each team scored a TD. In the second overtime Eastern Washington scored a touchdown and converted the mandatory two point conversion try. UNLV then scored a TD but couldn’t make the two point conversion as Rebels receiver Zyell Griffin caught the pass from quarterback Doug Brumfield but was stopped short of the goal line.
The loss leaves UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo winless as his second season at UNLV starts on a sour note. Arroyo is 0-7 as head coach of the Rebels, going winless last season.
An announced crowd of 21,790 came out to Allegiant Stadium to watch the Rebels, whose schedule gets particularly tough as they’ll travel to Arizona State for a game next Saturday and then will return home to face Iowa State on September 18.
