Local Weekend Sports Preview
As the weekend approaches it’s an exciting time for some of our local sports teams.
The NFL regular season kicked off last night with defending champion Tampa Bay squeaking by Dallas. The game marked the return of fans to a regular season game and our Las Vegas Raiders will be expecting a sellout crowd when they host Baltimore Monday night at Allegiant Stadium. The game is sure to break attendance records for a football game in Nevada. Fans attending Monday night’s game will have to show proof of Covid vaccination.
The regular season is winding down for the WNBA and the first place Las Vegas Aces, who got a huge win on Wednesday night, blasting second place Minnesota by 21 points and solidifying their hold on the second seed and a double bye in the upcoming playoffs. The Aces have three games left in the regular season. Their final home game is a 12 noon matinee on Monday vs. Dallas at Michelob Ultra Arena, followed by road games at Chicago and Phoenix to close out the regular season.
The UNLV football team suffered a tough loss last week in their season opener, losing to Division 2 Eastern Washington in overtime at Allegiant Stadium and it doesn’t get any easier for the Rebels as they play at Arizona State on Saturday before returning home to face Iowa State next Saturday.
There’s also a good slate of high school football games today including Centennial at Arbor View, Green Valley at Coronado, Cimarron-Memorial at Clark, and Las Vegas at Chaparral.
