The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels men’s basketball team opened its’ season with a win on Wednesday night, beating Gardner-Webb 64-58 at the Thomas & Mack Center before a sparse crowd of almost 5,000 fans.
It was the first game for new UNLV basketball head coach Kevin Kruger, a former Rebels point guard and son of former UNLV head coach Lon Kruger.
Bryce Hamilton scored a game high 22 points to lead UNLV and teammate Royce Hamm dominated the paint with 18 points, 16 rebounds, and five blocked shots. The Rebels squad looked markedly different from last season as only Hamilton and point guard Marvin Coleman returned from last year’s team.
