A memorial service for former Nevada senator Harry Reid will be held this Saturday at 11am at the Smith Center in downtown Las Vegas.
Reid passed away last week on Dec. 28 after battling pancreatic cancer.
Former President Barack Obama will deliver the eulogy for Sen. Reid. Also scheduled to speak are President Joe Biden, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Performing musical selections will be Brandon Flowers of The Killers, and Carole King, two of Sen. Reid’s favorite artists.
Only family, colleagues, and invited guests will be allowed to attend the service but it will be live streamed.
Locals should expect road closures around Reid Int’l Airport and around the downtown area on Friday and Saturday as dignitaries travel to and then leave Las Vegas.
After Saturday’s service, Reid’s remains will be taken to Washington D.C. where his body will lie in state next week in the U’S. Capitol Rotunda. He’ll be the first Nevadan to have been given that honor.
