The new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness dropped right before the Super Bowl, and it looks wild. The film is Directed by original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi, and was written by Loki show-runner Michael Waldron; that makes sense, as Loki dove deep into the concept of the multiverse, which was first explained by the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) to Bruce Banner  (Mark Ruffalo) in Avengers: Endgmane, was more fully fleshed out in the Loki series on Disney+. We also get a good glimpse of the creature Shuma-Gorath, which we first saw in the Disney+ animated show What If…? as well as a “variant” of Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) who we met in What If…? as well. We also see Wanda (Elizabeth Olson), and while it seems like Stange knows a little bit of the events of Disney+’s Wandavision, he may not be aware of the full extent of her powers. It’s also noteworthy that a voice that seems to be Patrick Stewart’s is heard at 1:19 into the trailer, saying, “We should tell him the truth.” Stewart, of course, played Professor Xavier in the X-Men films, and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has said that there are plans to incorporate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Dcotor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6.
