Thump In The Morning

Weekdays 5am - 10am Saturdays 2pm - 7pm

The Raiders were looking at a pick anywhere from 6-10 in the draft based on the results of four games. And in terms of draft position, all but the final result worked in their favor. It has led to the Raiders landing the 7th overall pick in April’s draft.

The four game results that would’ve moved the Raiders up four spots this weekend were a Raiders loss, Falcons win, Panthers win and Rams win

Raiders lost to start out the weekend. Then the Falcons and Panthers beat the Buccaneers and Saints respectively in the early Sunday games. That just left the Rams facing the Seahawks.

The Rams looked like they might pull it out, but a running into the kicker penalty on a punt kept the Seahawks drive alive and they drove for a game tying field goal. Then the Seahawks went on to win it in OT on a game winning field goal.

The Lions and Packers played Sunday evening, but neither team will affect the top 13 picks. As a result, here’s what the top 13 will look like:

1. Chicago Bears
2. Houston Texans
3. Arizona Cardinals
4. Indianapolis Colts
5. Seattle Seahawks (via DEN)
6. Detroit Lions (via LAR)
7. Las Vegas Raiders
8. Atlanta Falcons
9. Carolina Panthers
10. Philadelphia Eagles (via NO)
11. Tennessee Titans
12. Houston Texans (via CLE)
13. New York Jets

So what does that mean for the Raiders in the QB position? According to Albert Breer is one of the NFL’s most notable news breakers, and he has been hearing about two quarterbacks that could line up under center for the Raiders in 2023.

Tom Brady could find himself on his third career NFL team if the Raiders do move on from Carr in the offseason.

Although the Raiders’ 2022 season is now over, Brady is still on the hunt for his eighth Super Bowl ring, his second as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If Brady were to end up on the Raiders, he would have elite weapons such as Davante Adams and Darren Waller at his disposal and would be coached by someone he’s very familiar with in Josh McDaniels.

The other possibility that has been mentioned is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo has been sidelined due to injury in the second half of this season but is a free agent after this year has concluded.

He too would bring a lot of success and playoff experience to the table to a talented Raiders roster.

It seems like, at this point, a quarterback change is imminent for the Raiders.
