The Athletic’s Mike Jones predicted Derek Carr, who was released by the Las Vegas Raiders on February 14, would sign with the Jets as one of his 10 “bold offseason projections” in a February 18 story.
And Pro Football Focus’ Brad Spielberger projected that whoever does sign Carr, who will turn 32 in March, would give him a two-year deal worth $60 million (including $32.5 million in guaranteed money), making him the 12th highest-paid quarterback in football.
He projected that Carr would not “match” the $121 million contract he signed last offseason, writing that a “solid short-term deal” would allow him to rebuild his value before potentially dipping back into free agency in 2025.
Mike Jones wrote that Jets will be able to lure Carr to New York even though he will have “his share of suitors” in free agency.
“Enticing him with young wide receivers and a top-notch defense that give him a chance to contend in the AFC East,” Jones wrote. “Carr provides New York with a veteran quarterback in the prime of his career.”
according to cbssports.com “The fact that Carr got released wasn’t all that surprising. Not only did he get benched toward the end of the season, but he was also going to be owed $40.4 million in guaranteed money if he was still on the roster by Feb. 15 and the Raiders simply weren’t going to allow that to happen.”
Carr started his multi-day visit to the Jets facilities on February 17 and was expected to meet through the following day, according to a tweet from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
This is the veteran quarterback’s first visit as an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He did visit the New Orleans Saints before his release from the Raiders.
At one point, it seemed timing would have forced the Jets into making a decision about their quarterback without a clear picture of their options.
Mark Davis Makes The Best Cut In Raider History
Mark Davis and the Las Vegas Raiders had some high expectations in recent years. However, there were some surprising Raiders cuts made ahead of the season opener. The team certainly has talent on the roster. But it will be interesting to see how some of their roster cuts affect them moving forward. The Raiders roster cuts included releasing Darius Phillips. Phillips was expected to be a quality depth option at the cornerback position. He spent the first four seasons of his career in Cincinnati with the Bengals where he showed a decent amount of potential. However, Phillips was limited to only 12 games in each of the past two seasons. Nevertheless, many people around the Raiders organization felt he was going to play a role for the team in 2022.Another shocking cut was offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood. Leatherwood was amongst the Raiders roster cuts, but Leatherwood, a 2021 first-round draft pick, was more than just a shocking cut by the Raiders. He was one of the most surprising roster cuts in the entire NFL. Granted, rumors began swirling earlier in training camp that the Raiders were looking to trade him. But nothing came to fruition. That ultimately led Las Vegas to cutting ties with the offensive lineman.
The decision to add Keelan Cole to the Raiders roster cuts was very surprising. The 29-year old wide receiver entered training camp with a chance to earn the third receiver spot on the roster. At the very least, Cole could have been a valuable bench piece. But his performance during the preseason must have left the Raiders wanting more as he was released.
According to silverandblackpride.com The NFL’s final cutdown day is looming for the Las Vegas Raiders, and the rest of the league, where every team will go from 80 players on the roster to 53
The most recent cut of all is going viral, and I believe it’s the best cut the organization has ever seen. Check out Mark Davis’ latest cut below and how social media is responding.
