‘Awakening’ Takes A Nap: Wynn Pauses Performances
Well, we knew this was coming. Multiple media outlets have reported about the Wynn Las Vegas Resort‘s recent announcement to temporarily pause “Awakening.”
“Awakening” is an immersive performance experience that used technology, the art of theater and stunning choreography to create an all encompassing show.
The statement from Wynn essentially says the “Awakening” will temporarily be paused in order “to allow for an extended rehearsal period.”
If you’ve been following the “theater gossip” of Las Vegas then it’s no secret that “Awakening” has been a topic of discussion. Vital Vegas broke this story with Scott Roeben writing that “Awakening” suffered from bad ticket sales “since opening on Nov. 7, 2022.”
In fact, there were multiple Twitter accounts that analyzed the ticket sales and number of available seats during the “Awakening” shows.
The Wynn originally announced the show in 2022 with the premiere taking place on Nov. 7, 2022. Casino.org says, “Though the show’s representatives haven’t specified a return date, Ticketmaster lists the next performance as June 6.”
When the show first took off, The Wynn described it as, “beautiful heroine and her two fellow travelers as they seek to restore beauty and love to the world.”
“Awakening” replaced the long-running show “Le Reve ‘The Dream,” which had over 6,000 performances. The show went dark in August 2020 during the crux of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many people on social media have been discussing “Awakening’s” decision to close to show. Some people have gushed over their love for the entire production. While others have commented about the confusing storyline and ticket prices.
Another show “Bat Out of Hell” went dark on Jan. 2 of this year due to financial troubles, according to Casino.org. Whether it was the prices, plot or production, the consumer expectations for Las Vegas have definitely switched. From the glory days of Cirque shows and other immersive experiences, “Awakening” is another example of the changing entertainment landscape of Las Vegas.
