LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MAY 21: The Vegas Golden Knights celebrate after Chandler Stephenson #20 scored a goal in overtime to defeat the Dallas Stars 3-2 in Game Two of the Western Conference Final of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs at T-Mobile Arena on May 21, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Could it be that our Vegas Golden Knights are looking like a team of destiny?

After their second overtime win in a row over Dallas in the Western Conference finals it’s starting to look that way!

Chandler Stephenson scored 1:12 into OT to give Vegas a 3-2 win and a 2-0 series lead on Sunday at T-Mobile Arena.

The Knights trailed the Stars 2-1 with under three minutes to go in the game but Jonathan Marchessault tied the game on a sweet pass from Jack Eichel to send the sellout hometown crowd into an absolute frenzy. And just like on Friday when the series’ opening game went into overtime, the Knights wasted no time ending the suspense.

In Friday’s game Brett Howden scored the game winner 90 seconds into OT and Stephenson topped that with his goal off a rebound of a Shea Theodore shot only 72 seconds into the extra period. Of course the crowd at the “Fortress” went completely bonkers for the second time in three days.

Knights’ captain Mark Stone tallied the other goal and added an assist and goalie Adin Hill was once again superb for Vegas with 26 saves. Stephenson and Marchessault also had an assist apiece to go with their goals.

The game was a defensive battle and Dallas scored a goal early in the first period to grab the early lead but Stone’s goal tied the game and rallied the troops.

The series now moves to Dallas for games three and four. Game three is set for Tuesday at 5 pm and game four will be on Thursday, also at 5pm.

With our Knights now leading the series and having held court at home they control their own destiny like never before. All they have to do is win their home games and they’ll advance to the Stanley Cup finals where they’ll have home ice advantage over the winner of the Florida/Carolina series, which Florida is leading 2-0 after winning both of their games in overtime, including an astounding four overtime win in game one of that series.

We’ve said it before…the road to the Stanley Cup goes through Vegas!
