A’ja Wilson Scores 53 Points In Aces Win Over Atlanta
A’ja Wilson scored an amazing 53 points on Tuesday night in Atlanta, helping our defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces beat the Dream 112-100. Wilson’s 53 points ties the WNBA’s single game record. Ironically, that record was set by former Aces center Liz Cambage in 2018 when she played for Dallas. Another Aces player, suspended guard Riquna Williams, is the only other WNBA player to score st least 50 points when she scored 51 for Tulsa in 2013.
Wilson shot 16 0f 23 from the field and made 20 of 21 free throws. She added seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Teammate Kelsey Plum added 20 points and seven assists and Chelsea Gray tallied 16 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds, just missing a triple double for the Aces. Jackie Young chipped in with 12 points and four assists for Vegas.
Wilson scored 22 points in the first half which was a close one that ended with Vegas leading 56-55. The Aces went on a 26-13 run in the third quarter however to put some distance between themselves and Atlanta. Wilson made scoring her 53 points look relatively easy as she got the ball in great positions to score, scoring on a variety of pull up jumpers, layups, and drives to the basket.
