DJ Thump Marches With HETC; Receives Award At Nations Capitol
My longtime friend, brother, and multi-platinum recording artist; Al B. Sure! is lending his voice and celebrity status as the executive chairman of the Health Equity in Transplantation Coalition (HETC) launched alongside the renowned civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton.
This health equity coalition is focused on providing Medicare coverage for blood tests that could detect early signs of organ rejection in organ transplant recipients. So, this past March, a decision was made by a private Medicare administrative contractor that restricts access to non-invasive post-transplant testing for patients; giving them only a 30-day notice with no time for public comment before it went into effect the coalition rose into action.
Al B. Sure! Honors DJ Thump And Brings Attention To HETC
As a successful organ transplant recipient himself in 2022, Al B. Sure is a champion of the transplant patient community. I had the great pleasure of supporting and marching with him by traveling to Washington, D.C. to lobby lawmakers on behalf of transplant recipients. The visit was action-packed as it also included a dinner, a tour of the Capitol and Library of Congress as well as a press conference and meetings with congressmen to discuss this critical issue.
Al B. Sure! recognized me at the Nation’s Capitol with the Community Servant of Las Vegas Award, and I am so humbled and proud to receive it, as well as walk alongside him for such a great cause.
“Hundreds of transplant recipients and dedicated supporters of the cause showed up decorated with rally buttons, signs, and balloons to stand up against this article that has an undeniable effect on patients of color,” according to Al Sharpton. There were people who joined from all over the country to support this cause. I had the opportunity to connect with the likes of realityTV stars, politicians, dignitary officials of the White House, and more.
Here’s How You Can Make A Difference Nation Wide
You too can help change this decision, restore and protect access to vital non-invasive blood tests for organ transplant patients by contacting your elected officials in Washington. Act now.
