Las Vegas has earned its title of The Entertainment Capitol Of The World. A place where people from all over the world place on their bucket list of places to visit. And what’s the point of coming if you don’t stop to take a picture in front of the historic and iconic Welcome To Las Vegas sign at the end of the strip?
Black History Celebration At Las Vegas Welcome Sign
In light of Black History Month, Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II and Chairman Tick Segerbloom changed the perimeter colors on the world’s famous Welcome To Las Vegas sign to red black, and green in honor of Black History Month. The sign has changed its colors for Pride month, Cinco De Mayo, and according to clarkcountynv.gov “The lights of the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign colors were changed to mark the inaugural season of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs professional lacrosse team.” This marks the 3rd year it was changed for Black History Month.
According to sign.com, a woman named Betty Willis, an art student in Los Angeles, who worked in Las Vegas created the sign in 1959. This has become a must-stop landmark for tourists to take pictures.
The ceremony was held on the first day of Black History Month Feb 1, 2024, at 5p. Despite the cold and rainy weather conditions, many people still came out to witness this historic celebration.
