Iconic Rap Group Salt-N-Pepa Gets Their Own Action Figures
The iconic rap group Salt-N-Pepa is making history as the first female rappers with their very own action figures. The San Francisco-based pop-culture collectible manufacturer Super7 will release a two-pack of plastic figures molded after Salt-N-Pepa’s looks from the music video for “Push It,” their song released in 1987.
Some did notice that the group’s longtime DJ Spinderella isn’t included in the set. She is one of the original pioneers of hip-hop music, beginning her career as a member of the iconic rap group Salt-N-Pepa, selling over 15 million albums and singles worldwide.
A Look At The Salt-N-Pepa Action Figures
The company took to Instagram to announce the release of the products. “In 1987, Salt-N-Pepa became the first female hip-hop act to achieve platinum status and have gone on to become icons of the industry as the First Ladies of Hip-Hop! This Salt-N-Pepa ReAction Figure 2-pack is inspired by the duo’s looks from their first hit music video “Push It” and includes a pair of microphone accessories. Available now at Super7.com! #Super7 @saltnpepaofficial,” the post read.
People took to the comments of the post to share their excitement. One person said, “Ooooooh. Baby, baby. Must get these.” Someone suggested they add a twist to the action figures saying, “This would be awesome if they were salt and pepper shakers.” Another person said, “These are epic!”
The set represents the company’s latest release in a collection of action figures inspired by hip-hop legends. Drawing from the imagery of rappers’ most iconic moments, Super7 has unveiled one, two, and three-figure sets for artists. These include artists like Outkast (styled after the cover art of their 1996 sophomore album Atliens), Run-D.M.C. (in a holiday pack based on their A Very Special Christmas single “Christmas in Hollis”), and Beastie Boys (dressed in their ’70s cop-show outfits from the “Sabotage” music video). Other rap icons featured in this collectible line include RZA, KRS-One, Ghostface Killah, MF Doom, and Notorious B.I.G.
Most of their figures are 3.75 inches tall, resembling the Kenner “Star Wars” toys from the 1980s. However, Super7 recently introduced a “Ultimates” line with 7-inch poseable figures for several of their more popular characters, including the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” personas and Wu-Tang leader RZA, dressed as he appears on the cover of his album Bobby Digital in Stereo. These figures come with interchangeable heads showing different facial expressions and accessories like a mini 45 rpm record.
The two-pack Salt-N-Pepa action figures are on sale now on the Super7 website, priced at $40.
