UNLV Extends Nike Partnership Through 2030, Building on 45-Year History
UNLV’s longstanding relationship with Nike has been approved for the next eight years during a meeting in late September, where it unanimously approved the original recommendation. The deal cements a relationship between the campus and the world’s foremost athletic apparel brand, dating to 1978 when the legendary basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian signed a personal deal with Nike.
The previous agreement — which covered 2019 through 2025 — included $2 million worth of apparel and equipment a year for UNLV student-athletes but no cash. The financial terms of the new agreement have not been announced as part of the deal, which marks UNLV’s continued effort to provide efficient and effective resources to its athletic programs and a quality uniform and performance experience for its student-athletes.
UNLV Athletic Director Erick Harper, who announced the renewal on social media, said in a statement: “We are excited to continue our long-standing partnership with Nike,” Harper said. “Nike has been a fantastic partner, and we appreciate the opportunity to work together as we continue to grow and evolve. We look forward to building on this relationship over the next five years. As the leader in the apparel industry, Nike ensures that our student-athletes wear the best when representing the Scarlet and Gray of UNLV.”
The deal keeps Nike entrenched in Las Vegas, a location quickly becoming a home for major sports and athletic talent.
In signing a new multiyear deal to stay with Nike, UNLV not only takes a unique and creative approach to a solid relationship but also reinforces the program’s long-term vision for success as UNLV continues to evolve in the crowded marketplace of college athletics. Now that the new deal is in place, all student-athletes in every sport will be able to compete in the highest-caliber gear, proudly donning the Scarlet and Gray.
