February is the month of love. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Jammin’ 105.7 celebrated accordingly with Pacific Concert Group’s annual Love Affair show.
On Saturday night, lovers flocked to the Orleans Arena. On the West Coast, “oldies,” as some adoringly call this genre of music, have a special place in our hearts. Every year, Love Affair meshes together slow jams with RnB and even freestyle artists to create a nostalgic night of music.
This year, the lineup consisted of Jon B, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Malo, Heatwave, Color Me Badd, Next, and the Force MDs.
The night transformed the Orleans Arena into a dome of mushy melodies, touching lyrics, crooning and punchy dance moves.
There were also some surprise moments throughout the night. Kurupt made a quick stop between Evelyn “Champagne” King’s and Jon B’s sets. He rapped his iconic line from Snoop Dogg’s “Ain’t No Fun,” which ignited the crowd into total dance and singing.
Another memorable moment was a surprise performance from Marshall Thompson from The Chi-Lites. He sang an iconic verse from the band’s hit song “Have You seen Her?” It was a beautiful moment as the crowd sang the song’s monologue in the beginning word-for-word.
Each band and artist gave a stellar performance that allowed the crowd to be free from life’s worries. The Force MDs opened up the show. Malo, heatwave and Color Me Badd performed next. Evelyn “Champagne” King danced and sang with power. Her set was energetic and captivating. She sparkled off the performance playing the conga drums. Simply fantastic.
Jon B also commanded the arena with his buttery voice and sly keyboard combinations.
Next finished the night off with a set of their hits such as “Wifey,” “Too Close,” “Butta Love,” and “I Still Love You.”
