BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA - SEPTEMBER 20: Quinta Brunson attends the 2019 Pre-Emmy Party hosted by Entertainment Weekly and L’Oreal Paris at Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles on Friday, September 20, 2019.

As Twitter users discuss the horrific tragedy that occurred in Uvalde, TX on Tuesday (May 24) that left 19 children and two adults dead, fans of ABC’s newest flagship show Abbott Elementary asked Quinta Brunson to create a “school shooting episode” mirroring the disheartening event. However, the show creator quickly slammed one fan’s horrific suggestion.

“Wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write,” Brunson tweeted on May 25. “People are that deeply removed from demanding more from the politicians they’ve elected and are instead demanding ‘entertainment.’ I can’t ask ‘are yall ok’ anymore because the answer is ‘no.’

Brunson posted the anonymous fans’ message which asked her to use the show’s platform to direct the government to take action.

“This is just an idea,” the fan wrote. “For the eventual series finale, a school shooting episode to highlight the numerous ones in the nation. Formulate an angle that would get our government to understand why laws need to pass. I think Abbott Elementary can affect change. I love the show.”

In a response to the suggestion, the writer tweeted, “I don’t want to sound mean, but I want people to understand the flaw in asking for something like this. we’re not okay. this country is rotting our brains. im sad about it.”

She added, “Please use that energy to ask your elected official to get on Beto time and nothing less. I’m begging you.”

Abbott Elementary premiered in December of 2021 and was renewed for a second season in March. The second season of Abbott Elementary will premiere this fall on ABC.
