In celebration of Black History Month, Jammin’ 105.7 is putting the spotlight on some of the hottest Black Owned Businesses in Las Vegas. Being a DJ and vinyl record collector myself, I had to include my new friends Charlie and Lust who own and operate The Analog Dope Store located in the heart of the Arts District.
Lust explains how their space for musicians went from selling apparel to hosting pop-up book events into eventually combining all of their passions under one roof. The Analog Dope Store has become one of the most revered places to not only find and discover literary works from Black authors and full-length vinyl albums but is a safe haven for real conversation and dialogue on the culture.
When asked how they’ve been received in the area, Lust added that they feel “embraced by the community”. The location in Vegas‘ Art District has served them well as they are able to super-serve locals as well as the constant influx of tourists.
The bookshelves are lined with a wide variety of topics including Black History, Self-Help, Spirituality, and even Vegan Cookbooks. I even found a Black Panther comic book.
The amount of vinyl records on display is a bit limited but what they lack in quantity is overshadowed by the quality. You’ll find full-length albums from Beyonce, Rihanna, Aaliyah, Outkast, and my favorite Prince (*there may not be as big of a Prince selection now since I took some home). Co-owner Charlie is happy to order anything you’re looking for that’s not currently on display.
In addition to all The Analog Dope Store provides on the inside, you’ll be amazed at what lies behind the store. Just steps away from the front door is an entirely separate event space which boasts a stage and bar-type seating. String lights stretch out across the ‘backyard’ making it an awesome venue for intimate concerts, open mic nights, and more.
The next time you find yourself in the Art District, pop into The Analog Dope Store and introduce yourself to Charlie and Lust. They are some of the nicest people in the city and you’ll fall in love with their store just like I did.
