Nearly every young boy has grown up with an infatuation of being a cowboy, myself included. The hat, the boots, the plastic pistol with the orange darts, I had it all. I even have a Polaroid picture of sitting on some random horse they brought through my neighborhood when I was like 5 (I’ll bet you have one too).
Boys and girls alike are introduced to horses at a very young age whether it be with stuffed toys or a wooden rocking horse. Some of you may have even had one of those old school bouncing rocking horses with the metal springs (insert traumatic memory here).
Even as adults and regardless of musical taste, we love cowboy-culture. Rapper Lil Nas X capitalized on that love and teamed up with Billy Ray Cyrus for the remix of his song ‘Old Town Road‘ in 2019. The song reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart before being disqualified and removed. It was referred to as ‘country rap’ and did not meet the definition of the genre which sparked huge debates.
The song went on to become the biggest hit of the year and catapulted Lil Nas X to mainstream stardom.
Following the success of ‘Old Town Road‘ artist Blanco Brown released his song ‘The Git Up‘ off of his album ‘Honeysuckle and Lightening Bugs‘ the same year. The song became a certified Gold single and reached number one on the Hot Country Songs chart.
Now unless your wish came true and you magically received a pony for your 10th birthday, most of us haven’t been on a horse since that old childhood picture we took.
