Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for family, friends, and of course, great food. But, what’s your playlist while cooking up all of these fixings?

There’s nothing like waking up to the smell of fried, grilled, roasted and smoked turkey with gravy, fried chicken, ham, corn bread dressing (not stuffing we don’t stuff a bird in our house), macaroni and cheese, greens, corn bread, candied yams, mashed potatoes, string beans, macaroni salad, potato salad. And then to all of the sweets; cakes, cookies, cobblers, sweet potato pie and my wife’s famous cheesecakes. I know, I am making your mouth water right now.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it reminds me of how blessed I really am. My family usually surround the table before eating and each person says what they are thankful for.

Throughout the year, there are things that can distract us from the simple things in life. This is also the time to be thankful that you have something to give. It’s definitely a great time to give back to your community and those that are less fortunate.
Good food is made from the heart and touches others. Music is also a great way to feed your soul. According to Dr. Jenny Brockis “Music has an impact on our mood, our memory, performance and wellbeing.”
There’s just something about hearing a great song while cooking or entertaining friends and family that makes it all right. Music connects us at a deeper level with each other, which is why we love going to concerts, parties and singing karaoke. Having the proper playlist can make you the star of the family gathering, not to mention putting a little warmth, spirit and essence in your food.
Here are a couple of songs off of my personal playlist for Thanksgiving that I would like to share with you.

  • Orgōne - Be Thankful for What You Got [William DeVaughn Cover]

Not to many artist can cover this William DeVaughn classic and this band did an amazing job. It never fails, I always get someone asking “Who is this?” It’s a must add to your playlist along with the original. It will put you in the cooking mood!
