One of the few things I can say I have in common with the world renowned Snoop Dogg is that we are both Libras. My birthday falls on October 18 and Snoop‘s falls two days later on the 20th.
Many of us tend to use our birthdays as a reference point looking back over the past year reflecting on our highs and lows as well as milestones and accomplishments.
From the cheap seats, it looks like this year has been a spectacular one for Snoop having won an Emmy for his participation during the Pepsi Halftime Show performing with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.
He launched his newest wine with 19 Crimes, “Snoop Cali Gold” the franchise’s first sparkling wine and what was one of the biggest stories of the new year, Snoop announced his purchase of Death Row Records.
Snoop Dogg has a comedy special called “F*Cn Around” which he hosts with stand-up from legendary comedians Katt Williams and Mike Epps that is currently streaming.
He is also in production on an upcoming movie entitled “The Underdoggs” where he plays a former NFL superstar who, after a run in with the law, agrees to coach a youth football team in lieu of prison. The comedy is scheduled for release next year and co-stars Mike Epps, George Lopez, Andrew Schulz, and Tika Sumpter.
In honor of Tha Doggfather‘s birthday, here’s a curated playlist taking from Snoop’s Top 10 Favorite MC’s list (Slick Rick, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, KRS-One, Rakim, RUN (RUN-DMC), DMC (RUN-DMC), Big Daddy Kane, Ice-T, and Too $hort) and those artists who influenced him growing up as mentioned in Ben Westhoff‘s 2016 book, “Original Gangstas: The Untold Story of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Tupac Shakur, and the Birth of West Coast Rap“.
Happy Birthday to all my fellow Libras! #libragang
