According to our calendars, June 21 is the official start of summer however, the film industry typically considers Memorial Day weekend as the kick-off for launching their summer blockbusters. Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3 got a jump on the competition by releasing earlier in the month on May 5.

The two and a half-hour feature picks up with Peter Quill dealing with the loss of his girlfriend (Gamora). He and the team band together on a mission to defend the universe and attempt to save one of their own with the future of the Guardians hanging in the balance.

GOTG Vol. 3 has held the number one box office slot since its debut but will face some heavy competition this weekend as the tenth installment of the Fast And The Furious franchise is now in theaters.

Actor Paul Walker died in a car crash on November 30, 2013 but the franchise has continued to honor his legacy throughout the years. Walker‘s daughter Meadow, who was only a year old when the original movie was released, is now 24 and has a cameo in this tenth installment.

Disney‘s upcoming animation ‘Elemental‘ is scheduled for June 16 and has the look and feel of their 2015 release ‘Inside Out‘. The film follows Ember and Wade, in a city where fire, water, and air are all residents who live together. Though the feel-good flick is sure to be a hit amongst families, it falls just a bit short of the top ten.

It’s been twenty years since Disney released the original ‘Haunted Mansion‘ movie starring Eddie Murphy. This year’s reboot will star Rosario Dawson as a single mother who hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and a historian to help exorcise their newly bought mansion from ghosts.
