Arguably one of the most recognizable figures of all-time, Santa Claus is the jolly pot-bellied guy in the red suit with the fluffy white beard who lives up in the snowy mountains of the North Pole.

He’s been referred to as Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas, and just plain ol’ Santa.

With the help of his army of toy-making elves and faithful reindeer, he’s the promise of good things to come. The one who makes our holiday wishes come true (so long as we’ve been good all year).

His image has appeared on just about everything from wrapping paper and greeting cards to books, TV shows, and movies.

One such movie that captures the true essence of Santa Claus is “Miracle On 34th Street” which was released in 1947 and has been passed down from generation to generation as a timeless classic to be shared with our families. Actor Edmund Gwenn ended up winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as well as the Golden Globe for his portrayal of Kris Kringle in the movie.

There have been countless holiday movies made over the years with Santa at the forefront and even more that barely feature him at all but it’s safe to say that few have met the quality and high standards of those early cinematic gems.

A special recognition to the late Ed Asner who played Santa in the hit movie “Elf” starring Will Farrell and to Paul Giamatti for his role in the 2007 Vince Vaughn comedy “Fred Claus“.

A recent TV commercial starring actor Jon Hamm as Santa Claus caught our attention as it breaks the stereotypical portrayal of Saint Nick. This Santa hasn’t eaten a cookie all year. He’s the perfect answer to the question, “What would the healthy version of Santa look like?”. Jon Hamm earns the #5 spot to our 2022 list of Top 5 Favorite Portrayals Of Santa Claus.
