May 10, 2023, is known as World Lupus Day. We here at Jammin’ 105.7, will continue to fight to end Lupus and “#MakeLupusVisible.”

Lupus is an autoimmune disease. A person who is battling with Lupus suffers when their immune system incorrectly attacks healthy organs, tissues and cells in the body.

The tell signs aren’t always obvious and the side affects from Lupus are dreadful. Here are a few side affects to be aware of that may occur: inflammation, hair loss, nerve/tissue damage, joint deformities, fatigue, rashes, nausea, vomiting and more.

By educating ourselves and others, we can help care and properly support those with Lupus. Creating an awareness day, like World Lupus Day, is so vital when lives are in danger. World Lupus Day can help fund research, further education and provide programs for survivors and their families.

Lupus is affecting more individuals than one might be aware of. According to, “1.5 million Americans and at least five million people nationwide have a form of Lupus.” goes on to talk about how Lupus can affect people as early as in their teens and as late as in their early-to-mid forties. The key note to remember as that this disease can affect anyone and everyone. Lupus is NOT just an old person disease.

The Lupus Foundation of America has broken down the four different types of Lupus which are:

  • Systemic Lupus
  • Cutaneous Lupus
  • Drug-induced Lupus
  • Neonatal Lupus

Each of these types of Lupus are caused by different scenarios which is important to understand and to help treat those battling.

We pay homage to our beloved Sandee La Chika Bonita, who sadly passed away from Lupus on March 26, 2023. Sandee was a strong, caring and brave woman who always strived to be the very best. We will never forget her and her contributions to Las Vegas. We love you Sandee.

The has put together some tips to help spread awareness. Please check out their website here.

  • Global Lupus Community: Social Outreach

The Global Lupus Community has created social media facts and messaging posts to be shared across all social media platforms. They would like for everyone to use the hashtags #WorldLupusDay and #MakeLupusVisible.

They would love for brave survivors and/or their families (who feel comfortable) to share their stories online. You may find the social graphics HERE.

  • Wear Purple

Purple has been chosen as the official color for Lupus Awareness. Please wear anything purple to show your support.

We need to call upon our neighbors to help raise this awareness.

  • Light Up Businesses and Landmarks

Another way that we can help raise awareness of this deadly disease is by lighting up the world in purple. Meaning, reaching out to local businesses to change their lights to purple to show their support.

Reaching out to public officials, to help illuminate government buildings or landmarks in purple light to show they recognize and support Lupus.
