Nevada High School Sports Continue To be Cancelled
The Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association announced on Tuesday that it has cancelled the basketball and wrestling seasons for non-CCSD schools. The association said that the cancellations were due to Gov. Steve Sisolak’s statewide pause which is in effect until at least Feb. 14. Coaches across Las Vegas were already unhappy at the cancellation of football by CCSD, citing the negative effect on student athletes. The CCSD cancelled its’ winter sports season on Dec. 1. Some coaches hope that if the statewide pause is lifted, they may be able to get in five days of practice per NIAA rules so they can have a senior night for athletes in basketball and wrestling on Feb. 20, but those plans are contingent on the pause being lifted on Feb. 14.
