Aces Take Game One of Semis
The Las Vegas Aces beat Phoenix 96-90 in game one of their WNBA semifinal playoff series on Tuesday at Michelob Ultra Arena. Riquana Williams led the Aces with 26 points, and Kelsey Plum scored 25. Chelsea Gray added 17 points and 12 assists and A’ja Wilson tallied 15 points and nine rebounds for Vegas.
The Aces trailed 36-27 midway through the second quarter but went on a 15-2 run to take a 52-49 lead at halftime. Vegas led 76-66 after three quarters. From there, the Aces quartet of Williams, Plum, Wilson, and Gray continued to score and hold off any Phoenix attempts at a comeback.
Brittney Griner led Phoenix with 24 points and Diana Taurasi scored 20. The Mercury had five players in double figures.
Game two is Thursday at 7pm at Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay. Over 7,000 fans attended last night’s game including many Las Vegas Raiders players, former NBA star Dwayne Wade, and Utah Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell.
In the other WNBA semifinal playoff game last night, Chicago upset number one seed Connecticut 101-95 in double OT.
