The Biggest Beefs In The Music Industry
There has always been beef or rivalries in the music industry. I can start with the hip-hop culture but I don’t think you have that much time to spare.
Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Britney Spears just to name a few, had beef with other artists that you probably didn’t know about.
Music Industry Showdown: Michael Jackson Vs. Paul McCartney
Even though the two did a duet in the early 80’s, their friendship didn’t last long. After the former Beatle told the King of Pop that there was big money in buying music catalogs, Michael Jackson told McCartney he would buy his music.
According to Americansongwriter.com “Jackson purchased the publishing rights to the majority of the Beatles’ catalog—some 251 songs—for $47 million, outbidding McCartney”. And of course, Paul wasn’t very happy about that, especially since he put Mike up on the game.
Britney Spears Vs. Christina Aguilera
It’s not hard to compare these two pop queens. They both were Mouseketeers, both were successful as kids, and they both were reality TV judges.
These superstar pop singers started as friends, but the media has caused dissension between the two by comparing their styles, looks, and music.
Even to this day, they are often asked about each other in interviews adding fuel to the fire between them.

Mariah Carey Vs. Jennifer Lopez
Mariah Carey’s Ex-husband Tommy Mattola, Former CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, is allegedly the center of this beef. According to wearemitu.com, Carey wrote that her former husband continued to “sabotage” her music career. This time around, though, he used J-Lo to accomplish the task and that’s where the beef between the two stars actually started.
This industry is a dog-eat-dog world where even the big dogs get eaten up by deception. Rivalries in the music industry go way beyond who might be the better artist. “Beef on Wax,” becomes beef in the streets, and sometimes it can become tragic. This is a different world, and while we dance, sing, and enjoy the music of some of our favorite artists, we never realize the pain and struggles these artists face behind those closed doors.
