Aces’ Liz Cambage Backs Out Of Olympics
The Las Vegas Aces are set to be well represented in the upcoming Tokyo Summer Olympics. A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray are on the USA Women’s team and Kelsey Plum is on the USA 3-on-3 team. Aces center Liz Cambage was set to play for her home country of Australia but she announced late last week that she was pulling out due to mental health concerns. Cambage said she her mental health along with Covid concerns was a main reason that she didn’t play for the Aces in last season’s “bubble” and wasn’t looking forward to playing in the Olympic bubble. Japanese officials have decided that no fans will be allowed at any Olympic events and sports such as men’s and women’s basketball will be played in a bubble scenario. Cambage has cited and been open about her mental health issues in the past. The Olympics begins on July 23 and the women’s basketball team open play on July 25 vs. Nigeria.
