Jazz Innovator Chick Corea Passes Away At 79
Chick Corea, one of the most influential jazz keyboardists of all time, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 79 after a battle with a rare form of cancer. Corea was a virtuoso jazz pianist known for his improvisational style and work. He started his career in the 60’s and played with many well known musicians including Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, and Herbie Mann just to name a few. He’s probably best known for the work he did with the group he founded in 1972, Return to Forever. That band started a new trend in contemporary fusion jazz. Corea later founded another groundbreaking group, the Elektric Band. Corea was the winner of 23 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammys.
