Ice Cube Doesn’t Think Kendrick And Drake’s Beef Is Over
Ice Cube doesn’t think Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef is over. In a recent appearance on The Big Podcast with Shaq to promote his basketball league, The Big 3, the West Coast legend was asked his thoughts on the most recent rap battle between Kendrick and Drake.
The Rap Beef is Far From Over
After saying that he “approves of rap battles” and that they’re “the essence of the game,” the “It Was a Good Day” rapper, 55, added that he thinks Lamar is winning but doesn’t think the battle is over.
“I think Kendrick is up,” he told Shaq. “He’s landed the more hard and effective punches, but that don’t mean Drake can’t get off the canvas.” Offering the Compton rapper a word of advice, Cube added, ” I’d stay locked and loaded just to be ready for whatever’s coming.”

As we reported, Drake quietly deleted his two diss tracks from his Instagram feed: “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6.” Then, he released a confusing and badly-reviewed track, “Wah Gwan Delilah.” The last shot was made by Lamar, who seemed to solidify his win with the scathing and catchy “Not Like Us.” However, Drake’s recent post calling himself the “GOAT” was taken as a subtle shade towards K-Dot.
On the subject of rap beefs, Ice Cube is no stranger to being directly involved with them. When he was in N.W.A., he famously called out his former group, their manager Jerry Heller, and their label, Ruthless Records, on the 1991 diss track “No Vaseline.”
With lines like, “Goddamn, I’m glad y’all set it off. Used to be hard now you’re just wet and soft. First you was down with the AK and now I see you on a video with Michel’le? Lookin’ like straight Bozos I saw it comin’, that’s why I went solo.”
Cube still has that fire when it comes to his skills and rap legacy. During his set at the California Roots Festival in May, the rapper told the crowd why he thinks his record is still the best. “One MC — myself,” he said. “I took out four motherf—ers and the manager. You can’t beat that.”
He isn’t the only legendary rapper who commended the Drake and Kendrick beef. Last month, Snoop Dogg thanked his “nephews” for the rap beef, saying it is doing good things for hip-hop.
“The only thing I want to say about that whole scenario is that I want to give both of them a shoutout for raising the bar as far as lyrics, as far as song-making and writing because the writing has been upped since the confrontation or whatever you call it, whatever they went through,” Snoop, said in the interview.
Offering both award-winning rappers more praise, Snoop said at the time, “They made you rap again. You can’t mumble your way and gimmick your way to a song no more, buddy. So, thank y’all.”
